We bet you clicked on this link with great anticipation. Maybe you’ve sat in the stands at games, watched the referees, and thought, “I could do that!” Well guess what? You can! The TBOA is a group of solid people who have a passion for basketball officiating. With a nod to David Letterman’s iconic Top Ten list, here are ten reasons why you should consider joining our association:
- Everyone needs a side hustle! This might be yours. You’ll earn enough money to buy a few beers and never worry again how you’ll pay for your family’s Christmas gifts.
- That whistle is powerful. More powerful when you blow it. You’ll feel the power!
- It’s a unique angle on the game that few ever experience.
- Calling in the TBOA, it’s highly likely you’ll referee games that have future Division 1 stars and NBA players. Think of the stories you’ll be able to tell about who you knew on their way up!
- Referees are the coolest people on the court. Referees Rule! Period, hard stop.
- You’ll become very popular with those you know. When friends are watching basketball games and they don’t agree with a call, they’ll text you, asking about the rule, and you’ll know it.
- You’ll learn insider secrets. Like what we wear under our black pants,so you never know if we ripped them. Shhh. Secrets! But only to association members!
- At many games, the school will give you a Snickers bar and Gatorade at halftime. Which we believe are two of the major food groups according to the FDA.
- You’ll receive a pass that lets you into any high school game in the state for free! We hope you didn’t faint hearing the F-word…free.
- A big Division 1 coach could magically appear at your games to recruit a player. How cool would that be to look in the stands and see Coach K? Are you sold yet?
